What to see and do in Palm Springs!

Palm Springs is a resort community located in the Coachella Valley, 1 1/2 to 2 hours East of Los Angeles, and 4 hours West of Las Vegas or Phoenix.

The community of approximately 43,000 is calm and relaxed reflecting the largely resort population. There are virtually no street lights, with lit palm trees lining the streets. This scenic, friendly and relaxing community is distinguished by towering palms, mountain views and sunny day after sunny day.

Palm Springs is a hub for golfers, and also offers a vast selection of dining and shopping with over 500 restaurants and businesses including retail stores, theatres, museums and art galleries.

Below is a partial list of some of the many attractions Palm Springs and its neighbouring communities have to offer visitors - many of these sites are just a 5 minute drive from the 4 Bedroom Pool House we offer for rent, and some are only a 15 to 20 minute drive at most.

Outdoor Activities

Coachella Valley Nature Preserve offers beautiful (and free!) walking trails to explore, including a natural pond and a cabin built in the 1920s with historical information about this spectacular natural oasis.

The preserve is a natural oasis about a 20 minute drive from Palm Springs Vacation Pad, down Ramon Rd. and into Thousand Palms. The pleasant walk takes about 1 hour.

Palm Springs Aerial Tram Rising 8500 feet above the desert floor, the Palm Springs Tramway offers access to hiking and camping trips in the famous San Jacinto state park. The Tram is the largest revolving tram in North America and is an amazing way to see the view of the entire Coachella Valley.

The temperature is also 30 to 40 degrees less at the summit than in the valley, so it is a great way to spend the day in the hot summers. You can even camp overnight!

There is also a restaurant and cafe offering beautiful view of the valley for day or evening dining anytime of year. This is one of our favorite day trips, and the tram is only a 5 drive from our Palm Springs Vacation Pad.

Elvis' Honeymoon Hideway is a great tour for Elvis lovers and mid-century modern lovers alike. The home was the principal residence of renowned developer Robert Alexander, who built over 2,200 homes in Palm Springs from 1947 to 1957. Elvis and Lisa Marie had leased the house the year that they were married. The tour is about an hour to 1 1/2 hours and you can take as many photos as you like, sit on the furniture and strum the guitars. When we took the tour tickets were $25 each. The house is just a 5 to 10 minute drive from our Palm Springs vacation rental home - so it is a nice close-by activity that you can do in an afternoon. We really enjoyed this tour!

Restaurants

Our favorite place to dine at the River is is the Yard House Restaurant, which offers contemporary dining in a sports bar like atmosphere. The place is popular with people in there late 20s to 40s and plays louder classic rock.

This restaurant has great energy combined with a comprehensive bar list and top quality food - from the perfect burger with a heaping pile of onion rings to a good steak or a dinner-sized salad. Yum!
